Clinical overview
Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a structured aesthetic planning protocol that combines facial photography, dental photography, and digital tooth modelling to design a smile that fits your face — not a one-size-fits-all Hollywood template. Our digital veneer protocol incorporates intraoral scanning, digital measurements, precise shade matching, and CAD/CAM technology. Before any enamel is prepared for veneers or crowns, we can show you a proposed tooth shape, length, midline, and smile curve on your own photographs. Where clinically possible, a smile trial or mock-up may also be created so you can preview the proposed shape, size, and proportions of your new smile.
The clinical purpose is twofold: better aesthetic outcomes and better informed consent. Cosmetic dentistry is subjective. What looks “natural” to one person may look too long or too white to another. DSD makes those preferences explicit early, so laboratory communication and tooth preparation follow an agreed design rather than guesswork on the preparation appointment.
DSD is not only about appearance. Ideal tooth positions must respect bite function, gum health, and phonetics (how lips and teeth form sounds). Our cosmetic and restorative team evaluates those constraints alongside the visual design. Just as importantly, we don't believe every smile makeover needs veneers. If your desired result can be achieved more conservatively with professional teeth whitening, tooth filling, Invisalign/orthodontics, or another treatment, those alternatives will be discussed before healthy tooth structure is altered.

The same digital thread — scan, design, provisional, final — keeps the smile coherent from first mock-up to cemented restorations.

We take facial and dental photographs, an intraoral scan or impressions as needed, and a bite record. We also discuss your aesthetic goals in plain language.

Analysis & design
Using reference lines (midline, smile curve, tooth proportions), we design proposed tooth shapes digitally and evaluate them against your facial features.

Preview
You review a digital simulation and, where clinically possible, a smile trial or mock-up so you can see and experience the proposed tooth shape, size, proportions, and overall appearance before proceeding with final restorations.

Treatment & delivery
Approved designs guide preparation, laboratory fabrication, and final seating of veneers, crowns, or other restorations — with refinements as needed.

What to expect
The design phase is collaborative. We expect feedback — too long, too square, too white — and refine the proposal until it matches your goals within biological limits.
A mock-up may be placed temporarily on your teeth with a resin material so you can evaluate speech and smile in real life, not only on a screen.
Final ceramics still require precise preparation and bonding protocols. DSD improves the blueprint; craftsmanship and materials determine longevity. We discuss maintenance, night guards if you clench, and realistic shade expectations.
FAQs
Veneers are a common use case, but a smile makeover does not automatically mean veneers. DSD also guides crowns, bridges, implant aesthetics in the smile zone, and full-mouth rehabilitations where appearance and function must align. If whitening, bonding, or orthodontics can achieve your goals more conservatively, those options will be discussed first.
